A homeowner's urge for a diet Coke - saved her $750,000 home on the East Bench from going up in flames.  At 10:32 a.m., Tuesday, Layton-area firefighters responded to a call from a Layton, Utah home.  When fire crews arrived at the home about five minutes after the homeowners call the home was filled with smoke, with a fire in the washer and dryer room. By returning home for a Diet Coke this homeowner saved her home.

Dryer Vent Facts:

1. Dryer fires can be prevented with proper vent maintenance.
2. When a dryer vent gets clogged with lint, it is inefficient, resulting in longer drying times.
3. Dryer lint is very combustible.
4. In 1997 there were an estimated 16,700 dryer fires...resulting in 30 deaths, 430 injuries and over $84.4 million in property damage.
5. Dryer sheets create more lint than liquid fabric softeners.
6. The flexible hose that connects your dryer unit to the dryer duct must be up to date professional grade metal venting or just non-flexible 26 or 30 gauge metal piping.
7. It is a violation of code to use white vinyl plastic for dryer venting, plus it is a fire hazard.
